The man was in prison for two reasons: first, following a 12-year sentence for attempted murder by a spouse or common-law partner; but also for a three-year sentence for aggravated property damage. Furthermore, he had attempted to kill a prison guard with a hammer.

He had never returned to the correctional facility. He seems to have taken the train in the direction of Angers. From there, the investigators suspect him of having been the author of the murder of a woman, his ex-spouse, found dead on June 22. On the 28th, he allegedly attempted to kill a pregnant woman in Chailland, north of Angers. On July 1, a man was found dead in his home and his car on fire. The fugitive is also suspected of the murder. The public prosecutor of Angers indicated that the individual presented a “dangerous criminological profile”.
