The prisoner who escaped from a prison in Orne and suspected of being the cause of two murders during his run was arrested on Tuesday July 4, 2023, near Angers. He should be taken into custody. What we know.

End of a fourteen-day run. The inmate who escaped from Argentan prison (Orne) was arrested by police officers from the Maine-et-Loire anti-crime brigade on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. The man described as “potentially dangerous” by the forces of order was wanted on the side of Angers in recent days and it was in a building under construction in AvrillĂ©, north-west of the city of Angevin that he was arrested “gently” said the prosecutor of the Republic of Angers, Eric Bouillard.

The detainee should be taken into custody. He would have committed at least two murders during his run and would have tried to commit a third. What do we know about this individual? How could he escape? Who are his victims? We take stock.

The authorities who had issued the call for witnesses had simply indicated that the man, originally from Reunion, was 42 years old, specifying some physical criteria, accompanied by a photo of the individual. The fugitive, with mixed skin color, is 1.85m tall and has an athletic build, with curly black hair. His identity has not been disclosed.

The man was in prison for two reasons: first, following a 12-year sentence for attempted murder by a spouse or common-law partner; but also for a three-year sentence for aggravated property damage. Furthermore, he had attempted to kill a prison guard with a hammer.

This is the central point of the investigation to come: reconstructing his schedule. The detainee had managed to escape from prison on June 20 thanks to a temporary release he had obtained. He had never returned to the correctional facility. He seems to have taken the train in the direction of Angers. From there, the investigators suspect him of having been the author of the murder of a woman, his ex-spouse, found dead on June 22. On the 28th, he allegedly attempted to kill a pregnant woman in Chailland, north of Angers. On July 1, a man was found dead in his home and his car on fire. The fugitive is also suspected of the murder. The public prosecutor of Angers indicated that the individual presented a “dangerous criminological profile”. His questioning, in Angers, should make it possible to clarify these points.
