After Indian Wells, the American tour continues with the Masters 1000 in Miami from March 19 to 31.
Before the start of the clay court season including the Monte Carlo tournament and the umpteenth announced return of Rafael Nadal, the stars of the world circuit will compete in Miami for the second Masters 1000 of the month after that of Indian Wells which saw the victory of Carlos Alcaraz among the men and Iga Swiatek among the women.
Novak Djokovic, forfeited, will be the big absentee from this 2024 edition, he leaves the status of number 1 seed to the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. For his first match, he will face the winner of the match between the Australian Aleksandar Vukic (65th) and the Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (64th). If everything goes as planned and the logic is respected, he will face Ben Shelton in the round of 16, Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals and Alexander Zverev or Holger Rune in the semifinals. His main opponent will once again be Jannik Sinner, seeded No. 2. In the round of 16, the Italian could face Tommy Paul, in the quarters against Andrey Rublev or Stefanos Tsitsipas before possibly meeting Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final.
On the French side, Gaël Monfils will start against Dusan Lajovic (52nd), to find Borna Coric then Carlos Alcaraz in the 3rd round if he succeeds. Adrian Mannarino will face the winner of the Emil Ruusuvuori – Yannick Hanfmann match. Arthur Fils will begin his tournament against Matteo Arnaldi, winner of Djokovic at Indian Wells.
Among the women, we will notably follow the great return of the Romanian Simona Halep, opposed to Paula Badosa during the first round after the reduction of her sentence for doping. Four French women are qualified for the final stages of the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells. Caroline Garcia, seeded No. 23 in the tournament, is exempt from the first round and will face the Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova or a player from the qualifications in the second. Diane Parry, will have to defeat the Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, 82nd WTA, before possibly meeting Beatriz Haddad Maia (seeded n°11) in the second round. Clara Burel will have to face the returning Caroline Wozniacki (33 years old, 129th WTA), quarter-finalist in Indian Wells.
