Third in its group behind Angola and Burkina Faso, Algeria is back against the wall in this CAN 2023. With two points in two matches, the Fennecs are obliged to win this evening against Mauritania to qualify directly to the round of 16.

Algeria in danger! After two draws in two matches, the Fennecs are third in Group D behind Angola and Burkina Faso. This Tuesday evening, Riyad Mahrez and his teammates play their qualification for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations, a competition where they are among the favorites for final victory. If Algerian star Riyad Mahrez seems in difficulty and has not yet found the net, his coach Djamel Belmadi wanted to reassure his captain at a press conference: “I don’t want anyone to forget what Riyad is capable of. I agree, it’s a fact, those weren’t his best matches, but don’t bury it too quickly, eighteen months ago he was European champion. He’s captain, I know what he is capable of, I have every confidence in him, the whole team has confidence in him.” On the Mauritania side, the Mourabitounes are still looking for a first point in this CAN. They are already eliminated from the competition.

The African Cup of Nations match between Mauritania and Algeria is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday January 23 at 9:00 p.m. at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké (Ivory Coast).
