A 70-year-old man had his throat slit in Marseille. Two young brothers were arrested after the macabre discovery. According to a police source, this murder would have been perpetrated on “suspicions of paedophilia”.

A judicial investigation for “murder and aggravated theft” was opened by the Marseille prosecutor’s office following the discovery of a man with his throat slit in his bathtub. The facts took place in the 10th arrondissement of Marseille, in the Saint-Loup district, on Friday August 11. Two brothers aged 14 and 18 were arrested and presented to an investigating judge on August 17, according to France 3 Provence-Alpes.

The two brothers would have put forward the thesis of revenge following a sexual relationship between the eldest and the retiree. The prosecution has not yet confirmed this information. La Provence explained that: “The eldest had contacted the pensioner via a dating site. The two had had paid sex. He then decided to return to the old man with his younger brother armed with a large Opinel-type knife, to “bait and suppress a pedophile”, he declared during the hearing. Intervened following a worrying call from a friend of the victim, the marine-firefighters of Marseille discovered a corpse with “many stab wounds, in particular in the abdomen, he had been eviscerated and had his throat cut on the quasi- entire neck.”

The financial aspect is not ruled out because the two brothers would have searched the apartment following their crime. This act explains the nature of “aggravated theft” of judicial information. The two arrested would have had the will to make the body disappear but “they did not have time” according to Provence.

If the 70-year-old man was not known to the police, the big brother would be for “minor facts” according to Provence. The two brothers confessed to the crime during police custody, which is still ongoing. The departmental security of Bouches-du-Rhône was responsible for the investigation.
