“I just had to be disqualified for the elections of the LegCo, while I was the biggest winner of the primaries”, has announced in a tweet Joshua Wong, that had been the face of the “Movement Umbrellas” in 2014.
A “total disregard”
More than 600 000 hong Kong people have participated in mid-July to the primary organised by the party of pro-democracy in the city of 7.5 million people. “Beijing is demonstrating a total disregard for the will of hong Kong people crowd to the feet (…) the autonomy of the city and seeks to maintain the parliament in hong kong under his rule,” added Joshua Wong.
He denounced “the measure of punishment the most important” against the camp, pro-democracy, explaining that the authorities had disqualified “almost all the candidates are pro-democracy, since the progressive bands of the more recent parties of moderate, traditional”.

“The government of hong kong supports the decision (…) to invalidate 12 nominations in the elections to the legislative Council”, announced on its side, the government in a press release. Many of the candidates fail to do so have confirmed it on social networks such invalidations, and, in particular, some figures such as Gwyneth Ho, Lester Shum, Tiffany Yuen and Fergus Leung.

The civic Party, one of the formations most of the mainstream pro-democracy, announced that four of its members had not been allowed to present : Alvin Yeung, Dennis Kwok, Kwok Ka-ki and Cheng Tat-hung.
The LegCo has 70 members designated according to a system that is convoluted, which guarantees almost certainly a majority in the block pro-Beijing. Only 35 are elected by direct universal suffrage, the others being mainly nominated by socio-professional groups acquired in the mainland of China.
But the movements pro-democracy hoped to re-translate in the ballot box, and the success of their extraordinary mobilisation of the past year.
