The head of State recalled “the need for all the powers concerned, to avoid any escalation of tensions, as well as any external interference and support the establishment of a government mission in charge of managing the emergency,” said the Elysée in a statement.

Emmanuel Macron has also pointed to “the need for urgent action in the framework put in place by the United Nations at the international Conference of support and support to Beirut and to the lebanese people”. Iran maintains close links with Hezbollah, his main relay in Lebanon.
“Strengthen cooperation” between France and Iran
During the meeting, the two presidents also agreed to “strengthen cooperation” to address the epidemic of coronavirus in the coming weeks.

Regarding the nuclear deal (JCPOA), signed in July 2015, of which the United States pulled out three years later, Macron has “reiterated its determination to preserve” its surroundings and to “act in favour of appeasement in the region”, calling on Iran “to make the gestures necessary to avoid any increase of tension”.
Emmanuel Macron has also referred to the folder of lebanon in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin stressed “the importance for the permanent members of the security Council of the UN to work together to appeasement in the interest of the stability of Lebanon and the region, and to support the establishment of a government with a mission”.

The French president has also “solicited the participation of Russia in the mechanism put in place at the international Conference of support to lebanon and to the lebanese people”, which was held by video conference under the aegis of the UN and of France. Moscow has not participated in this international meeting during which has been promised emergency aid of 252,7 million.
