Emmanuel Macron has also pointed to “the need for urgent action in the framework put in place by the United Nations at the international Conference of support and support to Beirut and to the lebanese people”. Iran maintains close links with Hezbollah, his main relay in Lebanon.

“Strengthen cooperation” between France and Iran

During the meeting, the two presidents also agreed to “strengthen cooperation” to address the epidemic of coronavirus in the coming weeks.

The French president has also “solicited the participation of Russia in the mechanism put in place at the international Conference of support to lebanon and to the lebanese people”, which was held by video conference under the aegis of the UN and of France. Moscow has not participated in this international meeting during which has been promised emergency aid of 252,7 million.
