“Defendant Joshua James Duggar by and through undersigned Counsel, respectfully requests this Court to continue the sentencing Hearing in this Case by approximately 30 Days,” the court documents, obtained by US, stated. “Specifically, the defense would be able to request a brief continuation to allow additional time to seek additional information and documentation regarding a possible 18 U.S.C. SS 3553(a).
The 33-year-old 19 Children and Countingalum made a Saturday, March 19 motion. His legal team also requested a continuance because of “certain reasonable COVID-19 safeguards” taken at Washington County Detention Center, Arkansas, , where Duggar has been held since December. Duggar is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday, April 5.
According to the docs, “this brief interruption” was to allow Duggar’s legal team more time to gather evidence and documentation that they can present to the court when it determines a sentence. Duggar’s lawyers “faced some delay scheduling certain attorney-client confidential meetings by videoconference” because of COVID-19 precautions. His legal team claims that Duggar needs extra time to plan properly for his sentencing.
In December 2021, the Arkansas native was convicted of two counts of child sexual abuse material receiving and possessing. For each count, he could face up to 20 years imprisonment and $250,000 in penalties.
The political activist, who has seven children and a wife Anna Duggar, was previously held without bail in April 2021. Before the former reality TV star was freed on bond, his attorney entered a not guilty plea. (Josh was allowed to live with his family Lacount and Maria Reber during home confinement prior to the trial.

Anna, 33, married Josh in 2008. She stood by Josh throughout the legal battle. Anna attended his November 2021 trial along with several siblings including Joy-Anna Duggar (Judy-Anna Duggar), Jessa Duggar, and brother-in law Derick Dillard.
“We are deeply sorry for the children who have been subject to such horrific abuse. “We are also saddened about Josh’s family and his wife, as well as his precious children,” sister sent via Instagram during Josh’s trial result. “We are deeply sorry for the disgrace this has caused Christ’s name. Josh claims to be Christian. Many will challenge Jesus’ integrity when a Jesus-follower is exposed as a hypocrite. We fear for Josh’s soul.
