We all use various household appliances every day, often without realizing their impact on our electricity bills. Some of them are real energy sinks, but do you know which ones?
Faced with soaring electricity prices, now is the time to learn which devices are driving up the bill. Once we realize this, a few adjustments to our habits can help us save a lot of energy… and money! When we ask consumers about the appliances using the most electricity and we offer them the dryer, the dishwasher and the induction hob, the answer is surprising. Most people are wrong.
More than half of those surveyed point to the tumble dryer as the major consumer of electricity. But the reality is quite different: it is the induction hob that consumes the most per hour! In fact, the induction hob consumes almost three times more in a year than the fridge and more than five times more than the washing machine. Of course, it all depends on our lifestyle. Passionate cooks will see their bills rise, while restaurant fans will have a lower bill.
How can you save money if you have an induction hob? First, choose pots and pans that match the size of your fire to ensure even heat distribution. By using utensils with a flat bottom and suitable for induction, you ensure better conduction. When cooking, limit frequent opening of the lid as much as possible. Preserving heat allows cooking faster and avoiding unnecessary consumption. In addition, take advantage of the residual heat: once cooking is almost finished, turn off the plate a few minutes before the end. The residual heat will be enough to complete the process. Finally, make sure the plate and utensils are clean, as residue can affect the efficiency of the induction.
Finally, be aware that after the induction hob, it is the dryer which consumes the most. The dishwasher is the one of the three that consumes the least. And even with a dryer, it is possible to save energy. First, wring your clothes well before putting them in the dryer. Efficient spinning in the machine reduces the drying time needed. Second, don’t overload your device. Optimal filling allows better circulation of hot air and therefore faster drying. Also remember to clean the filter regularly to maintain good efficiency of the device. Take advantage of off-peak hours to use your dryer, this will allow you to save on your bill. The choice of program is also essential: choose eco or low temperature programs, which consume less energy.
