According to some leaked information, the next big iOS update would allow more freedom in the layout of iPhone applications.

If there is one point on which iPhone owners are behind compared to Android, it is the freedom to personalize their device. The iPhone’s operating system, iOS, leaves few options for placing applications and widgets on home screens. According to a recent rumor, this is about to change with iOS 18, the next big update for the iPhone.

Mark Gurman is rather vague on the subject. The journalist, specialist in exclusive information on Apple products, recently indicated that iOS 18 would leave “much more customization to users”, without further details. A rather vague statement which does not leave much information regarding the future features of the next iOS update coming at the end of the year.

The MacRumors site, however, provided more details on this statement. According to a source close to the site, iOS 18 would finally allow application icons to be arranged as users want. It would therefore be possible to leave empty spaces between several applications or even to have only one on a reserved page.

This information will not fail to make Android smartphone owners smile since it is an option available for years on their device. Apple could therefore further reduce the boundary between the iPhone and Android phones with its next update.

As a reminder, iOS 18 should be presented by June 2024 for a public release at the end of the year, just before the arrival of the next iPhone 16.
