A shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Pan district of Valence left one person injured. Although his vital prognosis is not in jeopardy, the proximity to a school where students were in class aroused strong emotion.
A scene worthy of an action movie. While students were in class this Tuesday, March 26, a shooting broke out behind the Brossolette school, in the Plan district of Valence, reports Le Dauphiné Libération and France 3 Régions. Not far from the entrance reserved for teaching staff, a man collapsed with a gunshot wound. Aged around twenty years old, he was however quickly able to be taken care of by the emergency services and transported, in absolute emergency, to the city’s hospital center. Injured in the face as well as in the lower limbs, the young man’s vital prognosis was a priori not serious.
An investigation was opened and entrusted to police officers from the Organized and Specialized Crime Division. At this stage, no person has been arrested. Searches to find the potential shooter(s) were underway at the end of the day in the neighborhood. Little information regarding the origin of the disagreement between the victim and the shooter(s) has been released. France 3, however, points to a neighborhood in which drug trafficking is raging. The investigation is continuing.
For their part, the approximately 230 children attending the school were able to leave class at the scheduled time, i.e. at 4:30 p.m., under good escort. “The national police and municipal police are mobilized on site,” assured Le Dauphiné liberated the director of the office of the prefect of Drôme, François Jouffroy. When leaving school, however, parents did not hide their concern on Tuesday. “We ask ourselves the question of whether we are going to put them in school on Thursday. We know that they are safe in the school, but all around the school, we are afraid”, testified to France 3 Regions a mother, confiding that she fears “that it could affect [the] children, because it doesn’t just happen to others unfortunately”.
