At the very recent Playstation Showcase, Arrowhead presented us with its new tactical TPS in cooperation: Helldivers 2. A sequel that we did not necessarily expect but which shows an excessive ambition.
Last May’s Playstation Showcase was the scene of many revelations from Sony’s third-party publishers and developers. The Japanese juggernaut can indeed be proud of being able to count on many modest and talented studios to bring the catalog of its Playstation 5 to life. year, and to which we owe some niche but respected titles from the Playstation universe. Including Helldivers, an original futuristic shoot’em’up that was widely appreciated by critics when it was released on PS4 in 2015. And today, Helldivers 2 has been made official, with a big change that will undoubtedly propel into the big leagues.
If you want an example of a perfectly realized trailer, here is one right before your eyes. A cinematic introduction to a wacky futuristic world, visually impressive gameplay sequences, an assumed satirical tone… Arrowhead has perfectly understood how to attract players’ attention. Helldivers 2 presents itself as a third-person shooter pitting players against very hostile environments, taking up the universe of its first installment while abandoning the aerial view and shoot’em’up style in favor of a more immersive experience. . Players will battle massive aliens in co-op missions for the glory of mankind, a storyline and satire not unlike Paul Verhoeven’s excellent Starship Trooper.
Regarding its gameplay, Helldivers second of the name deviates greatly from its predecessor, not without the ambition of an evolution of status. With high-end graphics, dynamic combat and the power of the Playstation 5 to support it all, Arrowhead intends to make its young license a reference in the field of cooperative shooters. And at the same time, the studio will be able to build a little more its universe where the Super Earth is at war against the evil Terminides. The game will bring together up to 4 players in high-intensity cooperative missions, all on PS5 and PC.
For the moment, no exact release date has been mentioned for this little Scandinavian nugget. Players will have to wait a few more weeks and the various announcements of the summer video game season to be fixed on the landing date of Helldivers 2. Arrowhead only mentions a release window: the end of the year 2023, exclusively on PS5 and PC.
