Greece on Thursday announced the first case of coronavirus in a migrants ‘ camp on an island in the Aegean sea, a-t-on learned from the ministry of Migration. A Yemeni 35-year-old living in the camp of the Vial on the island of Chios, home to over 3,800 people, has been tested positive on Wednesday evening, said a responsible person at the ministry who wished to remain anonymous.
“The man has been placed in quarantine in a local hospital. Thirty other people are undergoing tests,” he added. Cases have already been registered in camps of migrants in the continental part of Greece, but it is the first case in one of the overcrowded camps located on islands.

Almost 3 800 people live in the camp of Vial, three times more than its capacity.

In mainland Greece, asymptomatic cases have been found in camps of migrants. In April, 150 people had been tested positive in a hotel migrant in Peloponnese (south).
