Czech international Patrik Schick, one of the Bundesliga’s top scorers in the 2021-22 season, has extended his contract with Bayer Leverkusen by two years until 2027, the western club announced. Germany on Thursday.

“Patrik Schick has had a fantastic season and proven his international class in his position,” said sporting director Simon Rolfes in the Bayer press release.

The 26-year-old centre-forward, who joined Laverkusen in 2020, confirmed his formidable efficiency in the Bundesliga with 24 goals in 27 matches, allowing Bayer to finish in 3rd place and thus qualify for the Champions League.

He finished in 2nd place in the scorers’ rankings, behind the Pole Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich, 35 goals) and ahead of the Norwegian Erling Haaland (Dortmund, 22 goals), recruited by Manchester City.

“I just feel good here. But above all our team is a promise for the future,” reacted Schick, while media rumors claimed that he was coveted by Borussia Dortmund to replace Haaland and by Bayern, which Lewandowski said he wanted to leave this summer.
