The british Prime minister prepares to announce on Monday a grand plan for the fight against overweight for the country.

Boris Johnson’s part in the crusade against obesity. After the publication of a study that pointed the finger at obesity as an aggravating factor for the coronavirus, the british Prime minister and his government have developed a plan of action to combat overweight as it is preparing to unveil Monday.

“The Covid-19 we recalled the immediate risks and long-term overweight”, said on Sunday a government spokesman, “We will urge the citizens to take this moment to make the point about their way of life and to take simple measures to lose weight, live healthier and reduce pressure on the NHS” (department of public health british).

in The United Kingdom, nearly two-thirds (63%) of adults are above a weight considered as healthy, with 36% overweight and 28% obese, according to government data. One in three children between 10 and 11 years old is overweight or obese.

Financing up to 10 million pounds

with funding that could reach 10 million pounds (11 million euros), according to the Guardian, the plan “better health” will aim to help 35 million people, or over half of the british population, to lose weight or live more healthily.

Among the measures expected are according to media reports a total ban on the advertising of junk food online and before 21: 00 on tv, the requirement for restaurants and chains to take to make public the number of calories in their menus or even the need for shops to indicate on their bottles of alcohol.

Promote walking and biking

in Addition to an expansion of the branches of the NHS dedicated to weight loss, Boris Johnson is expected to announce pilot projects to promote walking and cycling in neighbourhoods where health is poor. General practitioners can “prescribe sessions of cycling”, which will be facilitated through the provision of equipment and the creation of bike paths that are separated.

This plan marks a 180-degree turn to the Prime minister, who had declared against the “taxes on our sins,” and an approach “maternisante” of the State. He himself had had to be hospitalized in the spring in intensive care after he contracted the Covid-19, absorbing several times the severity of its symptoms, among others, to its weight.
