SMART ONE. The start of the school holidays will materialize on the roads this weekend with many major departures. Ile-de-France and the northwest quarter of the country will be particularly prone to traffic jams. Here’s all the info on the expected traffic between July 7th and July 9th.

[Updated July 6 at 2:12 p.m.] After a first small wave of departures recorded last week, this weekend of July 8 and 9 will be busier on the roads. The start of the school holidays, on the evening of the 7th, obviously contributes a lot to this, with a good number of families impatient to go and relax on the beaches of the coast from the start of summer. For Bison Futé, Friday will be orange except in Ile-de-France where motorists are likely to see red. In particular, holidaymakers are advised to leave or cross the Paris region before midday. The A7 motorway, between Lyon and Orange, will also be quite busy once past noon until the evening.

The next day, the entire northwest quarter of France is in the red. Traffic jams will form very early on the main axes around Paris while the A11 motorway, between Le Mans and Nantes, will be particularly busy between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Traffic will also be very dense on the A7, on the Lyon-Orange section, for a very large part of the day. Sunday will mark the return to calm on the roads of France. If you can postpone your departure for a day, do not hesitate.

For Bison Futé, the weekend of August 5 and 6 will be the most difficult of the period on the roads, with moreover the only day classified black, Saturday 5, in the direction of departures. Like every summer, certain time slots should be avoided as much as possible (we will detail the traffic before each weekend) so as not to find yourself stuck in endless traffic jams. Under the expected high heat, taking multiple breaks and hydrating regularly will not be too much to better understand these moments that are always a little dreaded.
