Since the opening match of the XV of France, several spectators and personalities from the world of rugby have complained about the misunderstanding of the anthems.

According to information from Midi Olympique, the France 2023 organizing committee will meet this Monday, September 11 to analyze the various hiccups of the first week of competition and in particular the national anthems. The interpretation of hymns by children’s choirs, called “The melee of choirs” caused reactions in the stands and on TV. If the idea is quite commendable, the desired rendering is not really up to par and the hymns become incomprehensible. Whether at the Stade de France for the Marseillaise during the opening match on Friday September 8 or the Italian anthem against Namibia the next day, the cacophony was there.

The paper says the solution could be to keep the choirs, but remove the cannon singing effects, as well as leaving the second half of the anthem sung a cappella by the players and audience. A good old return to tradition, leaving room for communion between players and supporters.
