“This attack is not of our doing. Our mujahideen are not yet allowed to conduct attacks,” assured Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the insurgents. According to Attaullah Khogyani, the spokesman for Nangarhar province, of which Jalalabad is the capital, “the attackers (…) were first detonated a car near the security perimeter of the prison.”

One person dead and 24 injured

A civilian was killed and 24 injured were taken to the provincial hospital, said the spokesman of the institution, Zaher Adel. The attackers, disguised as security forces, entered the prison, explained to a responsible, safe under the cover of anonymity, adding that “twelve prisoners have been arrested by security forces while they were trying to escape”.
