GOLDEN GLOBES 2023. The 80th Golden Globes ceremony announced its 2023 winners on the night of January 10-11, 2023 live from Los Angeles.
[Updated Jan. 11, 2023 7:03 a.m.] The 80th Golden Globes took place this Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, in Los Angeles. A ceremony particularly scrutinized each year since it can prefigure the Oscars winners, which take place on March 12. The Fabelmans and Steven Spielberg won Golden Globes for Best Drama Picture and Best Direction, while The Banshees of Inisherin, a tragicomic fable about loneliness currently in theaters, won Best Comedy Picture and Best script. Interpretations by Austin Butler (Elvis), Cate Blanchett (Tàr), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Michelle Yeoh (Everything, Everywhere All at Once), Ke Huy Quan (Everything, Everywhere All at Once) and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) were also awarded.
The Golden Globes also reward American television. House of the Dragon won Best Drama Series, and Abbott Elementary won the equivalent of that award for comedy series. The White Lotus won the award for miniseries. The performance awards went to Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Zendaya (Euphoria), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) and Evan Peters (Dahmer).
The evening was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, Master of Ceremonies. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) had been in turmoil for several years over accusations of corruption and its lack of diversity, and so did not air on television last year. The reforms put in place since have been deemed sufficient by NBC, which decides to broadcast the evening again for the 2023 edition. This 80th ceremony therefore marked the return of the Golden Globes to television.
