History buffs or lovers of the French language, take out your diaries. At the Théâtre de Paris, the writer and actor Lorànt Deutsch adapts his bestseller Romanesque on stage. On the program, a funny, rhythmic and original show that stimulates your brain!
A subscriber to bestsellers, Lorànt Deutsch had already conquered readers with Métronome and its sequel (in 2009 and 2013 at Michel Lafon editions). Through a lively story, he then invited us to discover the history of France, to the rhythm of the Paris metro. In 2018, his book Romanesque achieved the same success with more than 100,000 copies sold. The principle ? A playful epic encounter with the French language, a journey in the footsteps of the words and expressions that we still use today or that have disappeared. On the bill at the Théâtre de Paris this season, Lorànt Deutsch adapts this latest work to make it an original single on stage, as invigorating as it is instructive. It is also in this same theater, in 2017, that we left the actor.
On the occasion of Pierre Palmade’s 30-year career, he resumed – brilliantly – the comedian’s cult sketch: “The Colonel”. Before that, he was the first role in the comedy Bankable, by Philippe Madral, at the Montparnasse Theater (in which he played a hypochondriac and susceptible screenwriter). We also remember his fine performance in the successful musical, Irma la douce (directed by Nicolas Briançon, at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin, in 2015), alongside his companion in the city Marie-Julie Baup and Nicole Croisille.
It must be said that he is a prolific artist… Revealed on the big screen in 1999, in The Sky, the Birds and… your mother! (by Djamel Bensalah, with Jamel Debbouze), Lorànt Deutsch continues filming, both for television and for cinema. Le Raid, One way, 3 zeros, he was nominated for the César in the best young male hopeful category in 2003. In the theater, he can be found in prestigious venues, such as the Antoine Theater (for The Importance of Being by Oscar Wilde, from 2006 to 2007), the Comédie des Champs-Elysées (L’Anniversaire, by Harold Pinter, in 2009) or the Marigny Theater with Eric Cantona in Face au Paradis (directed by Rachida Brakni, in 2010) .
Romanesque, or how to reconcile two passions! A “free and high-energy” adaptation of the book, this show allows Lorànt Deutsch to combine his attraction for the stage with his attachment to the history of France. We therefore discover our language over the centuries, from Gaulish to Latin via Burgundian or Castilian patois. Thanks to amusing or astonishing historical anecdotes, we enjoy appreciating the subtleties of a rich living language, an exceptional communication tool in perpetual mutation.
On the staging side, Lorànt Deutsch called on Nicolas Lumbreras. Expert in the field, we owe him in particular the recent successes of Jean-Louis XIV, at the Théâtre des Béliers Parisiens and of Cousins ??comme porcs at the Splendid (atypical musical piece which diverted the codes of vaudeville). A talented actor, he evolved within the famous Troupe à Palmade (sublime Santa Claus is a junk, in 2014 at the Tristan Bernard Theater) as well as in the Sébastien Azzopardi Company, for Around the world in 80 days. Recently, he appeared in Edmond, Alexis Michalik’s five Molières play. A multifaceted artist, Nicolas Lumbreras is also a musician and composer!
