What you probably don’t know is that certain types of shampoos could damage your scalp.

Do you know the profession of trichologist? They are specialists in the study of the scalp and hair health. For example, an Irish trichologist who posts on TikTok as @truahair_ recently recalled the consequences of excessive use of dry shampoo, warning against its use unless absolutely necessary.

And for good reason: according to her, the scalp already naturally accumulates many impurities such as dead cells, dandruff, perspiration and sebum. If you add to this the daily use of dry shampoo, you risk aggravating the accumulation of these residues.

The specialist therefore advises using this product only as a temporary solution and insists on the importance of washing your hair regularly to remove all impurities. Dry shampoo is certainly safe, but it cannot replace a good old classic shampoo. Additionally, she cautions that it “should not be used as a solution for oily hair because the scalp needs this oil for healthy growth.”

According to the specialist, an “excessive addiction” to dry shampoo is the main cause of hair loss in teenagers and women in their twenties. She therefore recalls the importance of using it with “many, many precautions”.

This theory is supported by other experts who point out that failure to properly cleanse the scalp on a regular enough basis can lead to issues such as dandruff, itching and, as a result, hair loss.

All in all, nothing wrong with using dry shampoo once or twice between washes or as a daily styling tool. However, it is recommended to carry out a double wash on D-Day, to massage the scalp with a suitable accessory and to take care of your hair in the best possible way.

When choosing the product, the Irish trichologist suggests giving preference to those based on natural ingredients because “many contain talc, which is harmful to the scalp”, which weakens the hair.

However, this information is purely indicative. In case of doubt or adverse reaction to a product, it is best to consult a specialist.
