A fire broke out on the morning of Saturday August 19, 2023 in an apartment building on Ile-Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis). Three dead and nineteen injured have been identified so far, announced the Bobigny prosecution. Among the fatal victims was a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly killed by jumping from her window. The fire would have started around 10 a.m. according to the prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis. In total, more than 200 firefighters were mobilized to try to control the flames. An investigation has been opened for “research into the causes of death”, said the prosecution in a press briefing at the start of the afternoon. Before adding not having, for the time being, “precise information on the origin of the fire”. The firefighters indicated, at 3 p.m. this Saturday, that the fire was “extinguished”, according to information from BFMTV. The prefecture recommended to the inhabitants of the sector victim of the fire not to “open the windows” because of a “significant release of smoke”.
