The weather will change dramatically with the end of the rain and low temperatures. Make way for the sun and the heat announces the weather presenter.

In her bulletin, the weather specialist announced that the temperatures will rise sharply. “More than 10 degrees warmer” in some cities she added. And the good news is that “it’s just the beginning,” she added with a smile. Indeed, summer does not seem to want to give way to fall. While September 1 theoretically marks the beginning of meteorological autumn, an exceptional heat wave is announced for the coming week. A rise in the thermometer that could set new records for the month of September. So we should soon forget the cold and rainy weather this week.

This late heat wave is mainly due to a very specific meteorological phenomenon: a depression descending from the North Atlantic towards Spain. By rotating counter-clockwise, this depression allows very hot air to rise from North Africa towards France, resulting in a significant increase in temperatures. Thus, this Sunday will mark the beginning of an exceptionally hot week.

The southwestern regions will be the most affected. Storms initially scheduled for Saturday in these regions should ultimately prove less virulent than expected. Rather than rains, it is a scorching heat that will invade the territories. From Monday to Thursday, temperatures could fluctuate between 30 and 35°C, locally exceeding 40°C in New Aquitaine. These exceptional values ??could lead to an increased melting of snowfields in the high mountains, which represents a considerable risk for mountaineers and hikers due to possible landslides. However, it should be noted that the regions north of the Loire should be slightly spared by this heatwave episode, thanks to a moderate easterly flow. Nevertheless, the good weather will be there.

If we refer to the weather archives, this kind of heat wave in September is not unheard of. The year 2020 saw a similar episode from September 12 to 19, with temperatures reaching 35°C in Paris and 36°C in Bourges. In 2016, a peak of 38.7°C was recorded in Biarritz. And according to the current forecast, it is quite possible that the coming week will approach these values.

This renewed heat comes just 10 days after the historic heat wave in August. It is clear that the start of the school year will take place under a radiant sun and summer temperatures.
