Stage promised to the sprinters this Thursday, September 7, but the favorites will have to remain vigilant in the face of the risk of curbs.

After Jesús Herrada’s victory at the top of the Laguna Negra yesterday, the riders are heading this Thursday to Zaragoza for a stage without difficulty listed and promised to the sprinters. Starting at an altitude of almost 1000 meters to arrive 800 meters lower, this short stage (150.6 km) could still present a few surprises. The stages passing through Zaragoza are often very favorable to the edges, the favorites will therefore have to remain vigilant if the wind appears today. The Soudal Quick-Step team of Remco Evenepoel is used to the borders and could try to trap the other favorites, including the Jumbo-Visma of the red jersey Sepp Kuss and his luxury teammates Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic.

The sprinters’ teams should be in control and the adventurers will surely have less freedom than the day before. Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), already a double stage winner, looks like a scarecrow among the massive arrivals in this Vuelta with a somewhat bare field of sprinters. Alberto Dainese (Team DSM – Firmenich), winner of the Giro this year, Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates) and Milan Menten (Lotto Dstny) are outsiders. Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) could also get involved in the final race, he who is discovering his sprinting qualities this season: winner of a sprint at the Tour de Wallonie, 2nd in stage 5 of this Vuelta, won by Groves .

Here is the stage classification and the general classification of the Vuelta, updated at the end of each stage:

The Vuelta traditionally takes place after the Tour de France. For its 78th edition, the start of the Tour of Spain has been scheduled for August 26, from Barcelona, ??capital of Catalonia, more than a month after the arrival of the Tour de France (July 23). The finish of the Tour of Spain was set three weeks later, on September 17, in Madrid.

Holder of the TV rights to the French and Italian classics as well as the three Grand Tours (Giro, Tour de France, Vuelta), the Eurosport group has been appointed to broadcast all the stages of the Tour of Spain 2023 on its channels.
