The Masters 1000 in Rome takes place from Wednesday May 8 to Sunday May 19, 2024. It notably sees the return of Novak Djokovic.

The Masters 1000 in Rome begins this Wednesday, May 8, only a few days after Andrey Rublev’s coronation in Madrid against Canadian FĂ©lix Auger-Aliassime. The Italian tournament should see the return to the courts of Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic, who hopes to finally launch his season, although he has not yet won a tournament this year.

It will also be the second Masters 1000 in a row for Rafael Nadal, and the third tournament in a month since his return to Barcelona. The record winner for victories in Rome continues his return to form after his abdominal injury which left him sidelined at the start of the year. He will face a qualifier in the first round, and could meet Hubert Hurkacz in the second round.

More uncertainties, however, for the other competitors in the men’s draw. Jannick Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have already announced their withdrawal, while uncertainty persists around the participation of Daniil Medvedev. The defending champion retired in the quarter-finals last week in Madrid.

In the women’s draw, no surprises in the participations since all the favorites will be present. The draw placed Elena Rybakina in Sabalenka’s part of the draw, while Swiatek could face Coco Gauff in the semi-final.
