The popular lettering in the Hollywood curve in the B11 has begun to rust. The city wants to take care of it.
Geretsried – “Old love does not rust”, says a proverb. The Geretsried lettering to the national road 11 between the entrances of the school centre and the city hall does not seem to hold, however, this unwritten law. Reddish-brown rust, traces of grace, in the meantime, the white metal letters.
Especially old the so-called Hollywood-curve is not yet. However, the labeled mound, reminiscent of the well-known hill in California has evolved rapidly to the landmark of the largest city in the County. Who ever was in Geretsried, knows the ten letters, which declared the city in the meantime, as the use of art.
this was a landmark rather randomly. The starting point was an almost unnoticed action of the Department ten years ago. In the spring of 2009, the city began a mound between the path and B11. Peu à peu, came the waste of other construction sites to the Hirth-curve, as it was then called – as a cost-effective noise protection for the adjacent residential area.
Quite as straightforward as initially assumed, was not the city with the noise protection measure. In may 2009, the mound had assumed such a scale that the city had to submit a planning application – the mound was an illegal construction. The developer of the nursing home to the Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße had offered to drive his excavation free of charge to B11, and eventually resulted in more Material than expected. In the following years, the Humus-paved and partly grassed earth Bund eked out a little-noticed existence. This changed abruptly in the night to the 1. May 2012.
A gang Geretsrieder climbed in the cover of darkness on the hill and rammed ten letters from the chipboard into the floor. The lettering GERETSRIED waved, now is the Hirth-curve, which was henceforth known as the Hollywood curve. Until the fall of the city had left the message, then a motet to him over the Winter. In July 2013, the cult of the returned object in a high-quality Form. The city built for 6000 Euro a metal framework. Four months later, the fun had to end. The lettering should go away, because the Federal government prohibits the building code, such facilities outside of urban areas. The letter distracted drivers, according to the district office.
With citizens, this message was not at all well. They fought for their new landmark. A specially created Facebook group went through the ceiling. District administrator Josef Niedermaier tried the angry people to calm down, even via a video message. However, the wave of protest not abated. Finally, Minister, Joachim Herrmann came in person to the Hollywood curve. The power of his word: The lettering is allowed to remain until the train departs to Geretsried. That would be according to the current state at the earliest, 2028.
Also, if the extension of the S-Bahn line always moves, seems to be the expiration date of the Hollywood to stay the curve. For the city, but that is no reason to let people’s beloved landmark rust. “The Department operates inventory assurance measures on-site,” says Ute Raach, managing officer at the town hall, on demand from our newspaper. Not be removed the letters but. “The staff at the building yard, which amounts to have it on your to-do lists.”
