The Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 14 to 25, 2024. French actors Omar Sy and Eva Green will also take pride of place and have a real impact during the event.

All eyes will be on the Cannes Film Festival for the next fortnight. From May 14 to 25, 2024, the Croisette welcomes the best of international and French cinema with numerous screenings and a veritable parade of stars expected on the red carpets. Among them, Omar Sy and Eva Green, two French actors renowned throughout the world, will have a very specific role which will have a real impact on the outcome of this 77th edition.

The Intouchables actor and the Three Musketeers actress are indeed among the few film professionals chosen as members of the jury in 2024. Under the aegis of Greta Gerwig, director of Barbie, who is here president of the jury, they will have for the role of watching all the films in competition and establishing alongside him the winners of this 77th Cannes Film Festival. Obviously, Omar Sy and Eva Green are not the only two members of the jury this year. They will be accompanied by eminent names from the Croisette who have already won awards or who have made notable appearances in the past.

Among the other jurors, we find the Turkish screenwriter Ebru Ceylan, who worked on the 2014 Palme d’Or winner Winter Sleep, the Native American actress Lily Gladstone, nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, the director and screenwriter Lebanese Nadine Labaki who won the Jury Prize in 2018 with Capharnaüm, the Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona who signed The Circle of Snows, the Italian actor Pierfrancesco Favino seen in The Traitor and finally the Japanese director Kore-Eda Hirokazu, winner of the 2018 Palme d’Or for A Family Affair and the 2023 Screenplay Prize for Innocence.

In 2019, Checknews revealed that it is the general delegate of the festival, Thierry Frémaux, who decides on the composition of the jury, according to certain balance criteria (ages, geographical origins, parity, etc.). Each year, the Cannes Festival jury is responsible for establishing the prize list among the numerous films presented in official competition, and in particular for deciding which film will win the famous Palme d’Or. A sometimes complex exercise, since the opinions of each juror may differ on the official selection.

An exercise that promises to be particularly complex given the names in competition this year, from Francis Ford Coppola to Jacques Audiard, including Yórgos Lánthimos, Andrea Arnold, David Cronenberg and even Christophe Honoré. The complete prize list will be revealed on Saturday May 25, 2024 during the closing ceremony.
