The japanese authorities rely on the olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 to boost the economy of the region affected by the nuclear accident.
They want to make the “Games of the reconstruction.” Nine years after the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Japan had presented its candidature to the olympic Games as a “dream” able to give “force” to the population of the archipelago, deeply affected by the accident.
To stimulate the economy of the region, the province of Fukushima to host olympic competitions of baseball and softball. A sports complex located in the vicinity of the power plant will serve as the training venue for the japanese teams of football. It is also from this centre that will start the relay of the olympic flame on 26 march.

Locally, the decision makes a cringe-evacuees of Fukushima. More than 160,000 people had fled precipitately to the north-east of the archipelago after the nuclear accident, on evacuation order from the authorities or of their own initiative, for fear of the radiation. Several tens of thousands of them have still not returned to their homes. They now believe that public money would have been more useful to the victims of the disaster.
