Raoni is weakened since the death on 23 June of his wife Bekwyjka, his companion and counsellor for over 60 years, following a stroke.
The famous cacique brazilian Raoni Metuktire got Saturday her doctors ‘ permission to leave the hospital where he had been admitted to a state of great weakness a week ago and return to his village.
Raoni was to take up to 13 hours on a plane official of the government of Mato Grosso (center-west) to join its community of Metuktire, announced the hospital Do the Pinheiros area of Sinop, in the State of Mato Grosso.

The chief Kayapo, at the age of 90, was treated for gastric ulcers and intestinal problems. “It still feels a little weak as he finishes his convalescence, but it is strong enough to continue to lead his people,” explained the doctor, Douglas Yanai, one of the eight specialists who have treated Raoni.
“I wish to thank all those who have supported me (..), who have ensured my health during all of these days. Now, I’m cured,” said Raoni during a brief press conference at the hospital where he appeared in a wheelchair and thin.
Weakened since the death of his wife
on Thursday, its medical bulletin referred to a colonoscopy which revealed the presence of new ulcers and inflammation of the colon. The output of the hospital had initially been postponed sine die.
Raoni was very weakened since the death on 23 June of his wife Bekwyjka, his companion and counsellor for over 60 years, following a stroke.
He had been admitted eight days ago to the hospital of Colider, also located in the State of Mato Grosso, before being transferred on 18 July in a facility better equipped to Sinop.
