Will Hurt confirmed Hurt’s passing and also revealed the cause of his death. “It is with great sorrow that the Hurt family mourns William Hurt’s passing, beloved father, and Oscar-winning actor on March 13, 2022. This was one week before Hurt’s 72nd birthday. According to Deadline, Hurt’s 31-year-old son shared his father’s peaceful death from natural causes. “The family requests privacy at the moment.”
Hurt had both son Will and son Samuel (32), with Heidi Henderson. He is survived by his son Alexander, 39, whom the Washington, D.C. native shared both with Sandra Jennings and daughter Jeanne, 28 whose mother is Sandrine Bonnaire.
After attending Tufts University, Hurt transferred to Juilliard to study Acting. The body heat star was nominated for the Academy Award three times. He received nominations in three consecutive years. He was awarded the statue for 1985’s Kiss of the Spider Woman. In 1986, he received nominations for Children of a Lesser God as well as 1987’s Broadcast News.
His acting career didn’t slow down after his role as the Big Chill actor. In 2002’s Tuck Everlasting, he played the patriarch of an immortal family and in FX’s smash series DAMAGES, he played scientist Daniel Purcell. He was a star in Amazon’s Goliath and appeared in the January 2022 movie The King’s Daughter.
He was also the star of some of the most successful movies, as well as his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He played the role of General Thaddeus Ross (or Thunderbolt) in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. In 2016, Ross was the new Secretary-of-State in Captain America Civil War. After appearing in 2018’s Avengers Infinity War, and 2019’s Avengers Endgame, Ross made his last appearance in last year’s Black Widow.
