Maddie vanished during an episode of Fox’s October 2021 series. She was left with her boyfriend Howie “Chimney”) Han and their daughter Jee-Yun ( Kenneth Choi). At the time, she explained that her child was not safe because she was suffering from postpartum depression.
“I am sure you are scared, confused, and hurt. I don’t know how to respond. I don’t need you to call the police or go looking for me. Maddie sent Chimney a message saying that I am not in danger and that no one is forcing me to do this. Jee is not safe with us. It’s not right now. She’d be better without me. You are my love. Both of you are my love, and I am truly sorry.”
Hewitt, 43 years old, teased in January that her character would return during season 5, which will be back from hiatus Monday, March 21. She captioned a series of Instagram selfies, “Oh Maddie, how I have missed your,” “We have both changed since you were gone. It feels good to be back together. We’ll see you all in March. @911onfox.”
Later in the month, Choi, 50, shared an Instagram Story video with the actress, who had joined the show during the second season (2018).
Offscreen, Hewitt, her husband Brian Hallisay, gave birth in September 2021 to their third child, Aidan. She captioned an Instagram picture of stickers on her baby bump with the caption “Well, this is how my children sent me to hospital.” My belly was a huge hit. “My belly was a big hit.” Now, it’s time to rest and snuggle.
Former Client List costars are now parents to daughter Autumn, 8 and Atticus 6, respectively.
In August 2019, Hewitt spoke out about how her role as 9-1-1 influenced her children.
“[My daughter] was studying emergency situations in school yesterday and she was like, “Oh, if your get into an emergency situation, just dial my mommy.” She won’t help you. She said, “She’s going send someone else to do that,” and I was like, “Thanks a bunch, babe!”” she explained to Us Weekly. She asked me: “How come you always answer the telephone, but don’t really help anyone?”
Hewitt is proud of her ability to be an example to her children. However, sometimes she takes her dedication too far. For an April 2021 episode, she broke her face capillaries during filming Maddie’s birth.
She said that it was “quite exhausting,” to Us. The next day, I had a sore throat. I couldn’t even talk. After filming this, I literally slept in bed for the next day.”
9-1-1 is back on Fox Monday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
