Decathlon world record holder Kevin Mayer, who is preparing for this summer’s world championships in Eugene, Oregon, has parted ways with his physical trainer and head coach Jérôme Simian, his team announced in a statement on Wednesday. “We have some disagreements on the form which lead us to this decision”, explains Mayer, quoted in the press release of the Blanco Negro agency, which manages its image and its communication.

“Jérôme is a remarkable physical trainer and has a huge technical eye. I am very grateful to him for the work done together and for everything he has given me,” adds the athlete. The double Olympic vice-champion in the decathlon had been working since 2013 with Jérôme Simian. After separating in 2020 from his historic coach Bertrand Valcin, he no longer has a coach by his side. On a daily basis, he works in Montpellier with Alexandre Bonacorsi, a childhood friend responsible for collecting and updating all his performance data.

Mayer is aiming for the world title next July in Eugene (Oregon). He will then decide on his possible participation in the European Championships in Munich in August.
