Vincent Kompany is no longer Anderlecht coach: the former Manchester City star and the Belgian club have decided to part ways, the RSCA announced on Wednesday. “The club and the coach analyzed the past season together and they also discussed plans for the future. It was then decided by mutual agreement to separate,” said RSC Anderlecht in a press release.
After eleven seasons at Manchester City, Vincent Kompany returned in 2019 to Anderlecht, the club of his professional debut, first with the status of player-manager. In 2020, he ended his playing career to become head coach of the Belgian club. Under his leadership, Anderlecht did not win any trophies.
“Today, only one feeling prevails: I am proud to have been able to start this new chapter (that of coach, editor’s note) in the club of my heart. I was a player and coach of RSC Anderlecht, but above all I remain a loyal supporter of Mauve et Blanc,” he said, quoted in the club press release. Vincent Kompany could return to the English league: his name is quoted by the British media to coach the Burnley club, relegated to the second division this season.
