The boxing world is in mourning. This Tuesday, three months after the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine (February 24), the Ukrainian Boxing Federation announced the death of Oleg Prudky, former amateur champion. The 30-year-old boxer died on the battlefield trying to repel the invasion of the Russian army on the Eastern Front.
“We regret to announce that the international master of boxing, the champion of Ukraine Oleg Prudky, died in the battle against the Russian occupiers, published on Instagram the Ukrainian Federation, a message relayed by Gentside. Eternal memory to you Oleg.”
Retired since 2015 (17 wins, 14 losses), Prudky had notably participated in major amateur competitions, such as the European Championships or the World Series of Boxing. He had made the decision to enlist in the army to defend his country, like the Klitschko brothers.
Reference boxing in his country, Prudky was greeted by the president of the Federation, Serhiy Tyschenko: “This is a new tragedy in the family of boxers. One of the best of the Cherkassy region, Oleg Prudky, died in the East.»
