However, Fabio Jakobsen is one of the best sprinters in the world and is aiming for stage victory in the Tour de France 2022, he who was preferred to a certain Mark Cavendish in the Belgian team Quick Step. Biography Fabio Jakobsen. Fabio Jakobsen was born on August 31, 1996 in Gorinchem, the Netherlands. Member of the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team, he started cycling at the age of 10/11 in 2007 at the Jan van Arckel club which he left in 2014 before joining the continental team SEG Racing which will open the doors of professional cycling in 2018. His performances among the juniors (1st in Ster van Zwolle, Grand Prix Frankfurt espoirs, Tour of North Holland) did not go unnoticed and Fabio Jakobsen was elected Dutch cyclist hope of the year before being recruited by Quick-Step Floors.
For his professional debut in 2018, the native of Gorinchem took the start of the Dubai Tour in the service of Italian leader Elia Viviani. But it was in 2019 that Fabio Jakosben revealed himself to the general public with stage victories at the Tour of the Algarve, the Tour of Turkey and the Tour of California. He became Dutch road champion after beating his compatriots Moreno Hofland and Bas van der Kooij. He ended the year with two victories in the Tour of Spain (4th and 21st stages). Five stage victories in the Tour of Spain and the leader’s jersey in the points classification at the Vuelta in 2021, Dutch road champion in 2019, Fabio Jakobsen has won several stages in his career in prestigious competitions ( Tour of Wallonia, Paris-Nice, Tour of the Algarve).
Since his arrival as a professional in 2018, Fabio Jakobsen has known three teams: Quick-Step Floors (2018), Deceuninck – Quick-Step (2019-2021) and Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl with which the Dutchman is engaged until 2023 .
Fabio Jakobsen could have never gotten back on a bike. On August 5, 2020, he took part in the Tour of Poland where during the sprint finish of the first stage in Katowice, he was in the fight with his compatriot from the Jumbo-Visma formation Dylan Groenewegen. As he was close to overtaking his competitor on the right, Fabio Jakobsen was deliberately packed down on the right and suffered a serious fall in the barriers one meter from the finish line, colliding at full speed with a race judge and a portico. Victim of a head trauma and a fracture of the palate, Fabio Jakobsen is plunged into an artificial coma and his vital prognosis is engaged. Two days later, the Dutchman came out of an artificial coma after a five-hour operation. He resumed competition more than a year after the terrible fall in the Tour of Turkey.
