President Donald Trump responded to the tragic shooting incident that occurred outside a Jewish museum in Washington DC. The victims, a young couple who were about to get engaged, were identified as two Israeli embassy workers. The gunman was heard chanting “Free Palestine” after carrying out the attack, leading to the deaths of the couple. The shooting was described as an act of “depraved terrorism” by officials.
The spokesperson for the Israeli embassy in Washington, Tal Naim Cohen, confirmed that the two staff members were shot at close range. The incident took place near the Capital Jewish Museum, located just steps away from an FBI office. Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, condemned the attack as “a depraved act of antisemitic terrorism.” He expressed confidence that US authorities would take strong action against those responsible for the crime.
The identity of the shooter remains unknown, and authorities have yet to establish a motive for the attack. Washington DC’s police chief, Pamela Smith, stated that a lone suspect is currently in custody. The suspect reportedly shouted “free, free Palestine” while being arrested. The male shooter was seen walking around the museum before approaching the couple and two others. It is believed that a handgun was used in the attack. President Trump, in a post on Truth Social, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and called for an end to such acts of hatred and radicalism in the USA.
