A buddy of the guy who ended up taking a nasty fall at a baseball game is now in some serious trouble. Ethan Kirkwood, 21, from McKeesport, Pennsylvania, is facing charges for allegedly buying booze for Kavan Markwood, who then fell over 21 feet from the bleachers during a Pirates-Cubs game. The incident happened last month, and Markwood suffered some pretty severe injuries in the process.
Who’s the Trouble Maker?
Ethan Kirkwood, the alleged alcohol supplier, is no stranger to run-ins with the law. Court records reveal a laundry list of arrests over the past three years. In late October 2022, he got in trouble in Indiana County for public drunkenness and buying alcohol as a minor. Then, just a few months later in January 2023, he found himself facing the same charges in Butler County. And to top it off, in January 2025, he was busted for reckless driving in Allegheny County. However, he managed to plead guilty to a lesser charge and pay a fine. But wait, there’s more. In February of this year, he got arrested for driving without a valid inspection, although he was later acquitted. Now, he’s back in the hot seat as police investigate him for allegedly supplying alcohol to a minor.
What Really Happened?
According to a criminal complaint, security footage caught Kirkwood purchasing two tall cans of beer before the game began. Later on, footage showed him and Markwood holding the beers. Kirkwood allegedly made a few trips back to the bar for more drinks before Markwood’s unfortunate fall. Markwood ended up breaking his neck, back, and collarbone after tumbling over the railing during the game. He’s since been moved out of intensive care, but he’s still got a long road to recovery ahead.

Markwood’s family set up a GoFundMe account to help with his medical expenses, and so far, they’ve raised over $67,000. Despite the progress he’s made, Markwood’s still dealing with a broken neck, clavicle, and back. His girlfriend’s mom shared an update on the fundraising page, mentioning that while he’s moving around a bit, there are still plenty of obstacles to overcome. The family has been overwhelmed with support and prayers for Markwood’s full recovery. It’s been a slow process, but they’re hopeful for a smooth journey ahead.
It’s not really clear why Kirkwood thought it was a good idea to buy alcohol for a minor, but his track record with the law doesn’t seem to be too promising.
